Ravello

Home Up

This old town is the best spot on the coast.  A quiet haven of gracefully crumbling old buildings with a magnificent view over the coast.  We walked up the several hundred steps from Minori (sprang up like gazelles, in fact) and enjoyed a superb lunch on the terrazzo of the Palazzo Sasso.

The Duomo and its piazza are particularly pleasant.

The gardens of the Palazzo Rufulo.

We took the bus down and it was a hellish cacophony of local teenagers.  When we reached Amalfi, our bleeding ears and raddled nerves could go no further, so we stopped there for dinner.

A one Michelin star restaurant, called La Caravella, specialising in seafood.  We had the tasting menu, nice enough, but were not too impressed by the heaviness and lack of balance.
When the chef kindly drove us home later, his hand was just as heavy, but his progress along the Amalfi Drive showed an exuberant daring that his cooking lacked.
